In Spring 2025, Yale University will offer a course examining Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s cultural impact. The course\u2019s professor views the course as an appropriate response to the recent US election.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s the buzz:<\/strong> Beginning next spring, Yale University will offer a course examining Beyonc\u00e9 Knowles-Carter\u2019s cultural impact in America over the past two decades. Daphne Brooks<\/a>, a professor of African American Studies and music, will use Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s works released between 2013 and 2024 as a vehicle with which to look at Black cultural history<\/a>. In the course, \u201cBeyonc\u00e9 Makes History: Black Radical Tradition History, Culture, Theory & Politics through Music<\/a>,\u201d students will look at interdisciplinary works of Black cultural thought and grassroots activism over the past few hundred years.<\/p>\n Digging deeper:<\/strong> Yale isn\u2019t the first university to focus a course on a pop star. UC Berkeley<\/a>, Harvard University<\/a> and Queen\u2019s Law School in Canada<\/a> have all focused courses around Taylor Swift\u2019s impact, and The University of Southern California<\/a> once offered a sociology course centered on Lady Gaga.<\/p>\n
