The London auction house Christie\u2019s is selling scores by composers including Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mozart, Verdi, Bach and Wagner.<\/p>\n

Details:<\/strong> On October 25th, Christie\u2019s auction house in London will begin the auction of musical manuscripts from their Sch\u00f8yen Collection. Entitled \u201cThe History of Western Music: Manuscripts from the Sch\u00f8yen Collection<\/a>,\u201d the sale\u2019s contents include a signed copy of Ravel\u2019s Bolero, a first edition of Wagner\u2019s Tannha\u00fcser, Vaughan Williams\u2019 A London Symphony, Bach\u2019s Toccata in D Minor and Handel\u2019s Coronation Anthems, amongst other musical treasures.<\/p>\n

Going Deeper:<\/strong> Christie\u2019s will also auction works that mark the development of Western classical music. These include a scroll in French Messine notation<\/a> dated from 900 AD, as well as examples of Byzantine<\/a> and early German musical notation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Refresher:<\/strong> The Sch\u00f8yen Collection<\/a> is a collection of manuscripts spanning 5000 years of human civilization. The collection includes the Dead Sea Scrolls, biblical works of many different traditions such as the Tower of Babel Stele, literary and musical works including the Epic of Gilgamesh and works by Shakespeare, and more recently, movie scripts and storyboards.<\/p>\n
